  • Notre Histoire | Domaine Hamelin

Our story In 1840: Gustave HAMELIN, living in Montallerie, a small town in Beines, cultivated 2 ha of vines, while practicing mixed farming. In 1880: Pierre HAMELIN, living in the village of Beines, cultivated 3 ha of vines, plus some land and animals. He worked his vines with the help of a mule. At that time, the wine was aged in barrels, whose capacity of 132 liters gave it the name feuillette. All these wines were sold in their container. They were transported by river using barges or rafts. In 1911: Georges HAMELIN came to settle in Lignorelles. The property will extend to 4 hectares of vines, which he will cultivate with the help of a horse. The wine sold in sheets will be transported by rail. In 1936: Pierre HAMELIN took over from his father. He is developing his vineyard (6 ha) and is benefiting from the technological developments in the profession. In 1948, the first mechanical horizontal press. In 1953, the first straddle tractor. It extends the barrel tradition and increases the capacity of its cellar with enamelled metal vats. In 1970: Marc HAMELIN created his own business, then added the estate to it from his father. He creates a new vat room. In 2003, the Domaine HAMELIN brought together the farms of Marc and Thierry In 2011, Charles HAMELIN joined the family estate alongside his father Thierry. The know-how passed down from generation to generation harmonizes ancient traditions and modern techniques. Maintaining the taste of the terroir, offering the maximum generosity and charm to our wines are the major axes and obligations of our Chablis wines. Monitoring our vines and choosing the optimal moment for grape maturity is a priority. Well-controlled, temperature-controlled vinification is essential. Bottling, by us, at the moments when the wine expresses itself at its best, that’s our motto. Listening to our customers is our policy.
